Tibet Climate & Weather
As the whole Tibet is located at a high altitude area, there are much sunshine all year round with two distinctive seasons - the dry season and wet season. But the air is thin, the air pressure is low and the oxygen is rare.
Dry season or windy season falls on winter and spring, from October to the next May. During this period, it rains little and has much wind. Snow will occur in the mountainous area. Thanks to the high altitude, there are abundant sunshine and strong radiation. So it is still warm in the day time.
Wet season is from June to early October when the weather becomes warm and moister. There is huge difference in temperature between daytime and night time. In the afternoon in June, the temperature will reach up to 27 - 29°C, while the temperature will drop to 0 - 5°C at night. Rains often happen at night and it will be a big sunny day in the next morning.
April to May is the best time to have a tour in Tibet when the climate becomes mild and humid and the temperature is not very cold. Although the rainy season falls on July and August.
If you plan travel to Mount Everest, you’d better come in April, May, September or October. You have a great chance to see the peak clearly during these period.
