Weather & Climate in Mt. Siguniangshan Area
Mount Siguniang is situated at the junction area of Xiaojin County and Wenchuan County, and the highest mountain peak of the Qionglai Mountain Ranges. The high altitude ranges from 3200m of Siguniangshan County to 6250m of the top of Yaomeifeng ( the 4th peak ).
The climate of Mount Siguniang belongs to the transition from subtropical monsoon climate to continental plateau climate. Due to its location in the Sichuan-Tibetan plateau, the weather features: winter is cold and summer is cool; it is cool in the morning and evening, and hot at noon. Annually, the duration of sunshine is about 2214 hours. The average rainfall is about 1100 - 1600ml.
Spring
The spring of Siguniangshan area is from March to May. The average temperature is about 7℃. Visiting Mount Siguniang is for viewing the mountains covered the white snow, and ice walls with different colors. Due to the dry air and fewer rainfall, sunshine sky with white clouds appears often. The sunscreen cream, sun hat, sunglasses, down jacket, thermal cloth, climbing shoes and anti-sweat underwear are the necessities.

Summer
June, July, August are the summer of Siguniangshan area. The temperature rises day by day. The average temperature is about 12℃. The temperature difference between daytime and night is large, and it is so cold that you need to bring down jacket. Furthermore, July and August are the rainy season of west Sichuan. The waterproof hiking shoes, raincoat and umbrella are necessaries.
Summer is the best time to view the snow-covered mountain peak and various flowers. The famous flower is azalea blossoms. Besides, the local Tibetan people will host Guozhuangping ( a activity about praying respects to mountains ) at the May 4th - 6th of Chinese lunar calendar. They will wear delightful festival clothes, and take yak butter tea, barley wine and ciba ( glutinous rice cake ) to natural altar - Chaoshanping for worshiping the gods of Siguniangshan Mountains. Visit Siguniangsan at that time to experience the local traditions and customs, and learn to dance Guozhuang, an unique style of dancing in Tibetan area. But in summer, it is raining often. The rainy day may make your itinerary changed or even cause your trip delayed.

Winter
In Siguniangshan area, winter is the perfect season for mountaineering and ice climbing. Many climbing activities are hosted in December, January and February. Annual Siguniangshan Shuangqiao Valley Ice Climbing Festival is hosted at the late December and the early January. Winter is the coldest time in Siguniangshan, even in the whole west Sichuan plateau. The mountains are covered under white snow, and sometimes the roads in the scenic park are covered. In order to prevent snow blindness, visitors need to wear sunglasses.
