Shangri-La Climate & Weather

Shangri-La is located at an altitude of about 3,300 meters above sea level and belongs to temperature zone and cold temperature zone. The whole year are warm and humid with the average temperature between 4.7°C - 16.5°C. But the temperature here changes much between day and night. The temperature in a sunny day can raise to 30°C, while the night will feel like be in winter.

During spring season from March to May, the snow melts with a cold temperature. Summer is from June to August with highest temperature and rains the most. Autumn is from September to October with the comfortable temperature between 5°C - 30°C. During winter from November to February, there will be snowfall and the temperature will go below freezing.

There are two best period to visit Shangri-La and tourists can enjoy different natural beauty in here. The first period is around Dragon Boat Festival between May and June. During this period, the azalea blooming everywhere in the mountain with the nameless flowers on the grassland, which makes you feel like step in a world of flowers. The second period is around the Mid-autumn Festival between September to November. The blooming wolf drug flowers, the clear snow-capped mountains, the flocks and herds grazing on the grassland together make Shangri-La the most enchanting.

The weather in Shangri-La is always changeable and unsettled. There is a huge difference in temperature between daytime and night time. So it is advised that you should bring some warm clothes. Sunhat and sunglasses are necessary for the strong sun radiation.
