Seda County is located in the northeastern Ganzi Tibetan Prefecture, far away from Chengdu. Due to the limits of geographic and environmental factors, the road condition is not as good as that of county around Chengdu. Nowadays, the main transportation to Seda from Chengdu is regular bus and car rental. Tourists can also take a flight to Kangding airport and then take the regular bus from Kangding to Seda.

From Chengdu to Seda County

By flight + regular bus

There is not airport in Seda county or around, and the nearest airport is Kangding Airport. Tourists can take flight departing at 09:45 each day from Chengdu Shuangliu Airport. After arriving, take the airport express to the Kangding county and then take the regular bus departing at 06:00 to Seda county. Since it takes about one day by bus from Kangding to Seda, we don't recommend you to do like this.

The Bus on the Seda Grassland

By regular bus

From Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Station, there is one regular long-distance bus departing at 06:20 each day to Seda county. The driving time is about 14 hours. In summer, the bus will arrive in the Seda county at 21:00, but if in winter the bus will stop at Maerkang for one night and arrive in the Seda county at noon.

Tourists can also take regular bus from Chengdu to Maerkang, and there are five buses each day (departing at 06:30, 08:30, 10:00, 12:00, 13:30), and then take bus from Maerkang to Seda. The bus to Seda leaves in the early morning, so two days are needed if do like this.

Or: tourists can take buses (17 buses each day) from Chengdu to Kangding, and then take the next day bus departing at 6:00 to Seda county.

The bus back to Chengdu from Seda leaves at 06:00 and arrives in Chengdu at about 21:00.

The Rugged Road to Seda

By renting car

Renting a car or van to Seda is the most convenient and fastest ways from Chengdu. Otherwise, in the passenger center of Kangding and Maerkang, it is possible to rent a car to Seda county. Route 1: Chengdu - highway, 60km - Yingxiu - G317, 260km - Maerkang - G317, 200km - Wengda Town - county road, 63km - Seda Larong Wuming Buddhist Academy

The road condition from Chengdu to Maerkang is good, but the road later is bad. The road length is about 580km which will take about 12 hours.

Route 2: Chengdu - highway, 130km - Ya'an - G318, 194km - Kangding - G318, 75.8km - Xinduqiao – S303, 213km - Luhuo - G317, 72km - engda Town - county road, 63km - Seda Larong Wuming Buddhist Academy

The road from Chengdu to Xinduqiao is good, and the scenery is beautiful, the road from Xinduqiao to Luhuo via Tagong grassland is bad but the scenery is the most beautiful. The road length is about 742km and it will take about 16 hours, so we recommend visitors stay overnight in Xinduqiao.

Wuming Buddhist Academy

From Seda to Wuming Buddhist Academy

The Wuming Buddhist Academy and Sky-burial site are the must-visit attractions in Seda county. All tourists can only rent a local car/ van or share a car in the county to go there. Usually, if you share the car with other visitors, the fee will be 6-10 yuan per person to the Academy and 10-15 yuan per person from the Academy to the Sky-burial site.

From Seda to Chengdu

There are two ways back to Chengdu from the Seda county. One is to buy direct regular bus departing at 6:30 from the Seda Bus Station. And the station starts to sell tickets at 8:30, so please buy your bus ticket one day in advance. The bus will arrive at Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Station at about 20:00. The other is to buy bus to Maerkang and then change the next day bus back to Chengdu. It takes two days, but there are several buses.
