Featured Food & Restaurant recommended in Seda

Due to the remote location, Seda has certain limites of lodging and diet, but in Seda county there are several special food and restaurants. Seda Tibetans eat Zanba, flour, beef and mutton, butter and yak milk as their staple food. If you visit a local Tibetan home, you will be treated by milky tea and Qingke barley powder. Of course, in some big restaurants, it is possible to taste Sichuan dishes.

1. Zanba

Zanba is a nutritious dollop of roaster barley paste. Most Zanbas are white and boast of fragrance. There are two ways to eat it: one is to mix Zanba with little buttered tea and milk, stir them together and knead it to be a mass for eating; the other is to mix Zanba with buttered tea, and then pour a cup of green tea, tasting tea while licking Zanba.

2. Beef and mutton

The dishes of beef and mutton are the common dish in Seda Tibetan. The yaks and sheep grow up by eating natural grass and drinking inartificial water. Their meet is tender and tasty. Usually, the locals cut it into blocks and stew meet in boiling water. This is called "tuotuorou".

3. Yak Milk products

Yak milk biscuit, milk residue and milk pastry are also the daily food. Milk pastry is used to treat guests at every festival and at New Year.

4. Hot Tea

Hot Tea has three categories: green tea, milky tea, buttered tea. Pour tea into the clean water, boil it down and add salt, and then green tea is made successfully. Milky tea is made by adding some milk into green tea. Pour green tea, butter and salt into a tea bucket, and stir them together, then it become the buttered tea.

5. Buttered tea

The buttered tea is one kind of daily beverage in Seda Tibetan. At most of time, it is drunk together with Zanba. It is made from butter and strong tea by mixing. When firstly visiting Seda, drinking a cup of buttered tea is good to replenish energy and overcome highland sickness.

6. Yak Milk

On the Seda grassland, yak milk yoghourt is an ideal health drink with the effect of helping digestion and promoting appetite. Under a layer of yellow milk skin is the tender and ropy yoghourt like the pure white tofu jelly.

In the Seda county and around Seda Buddhist Academy, there are several restaurants which can offer Tibetan food and Sichuan dishes, like Buddhist Academy Restaurants, Baiwei Zangcan, Chongqing Liuyishou Hotpot and so on.

1. Buddhist Academy Restaurant (佛学院餐馆)

Add: 50m near to female dormitory (named Nvsheng Zonghelou), Wuming Buddhist Academy
Features: only the female can enter into the restaurant. Main food is porridge, vegetable dish and vegetarian noodles. Visitors choose food by themselves, but some fine for the remains of meal.

2. Baiwei Zangcan (百味藏餐)
