Trip Overview

Wolong National Nature Reserve is the best place in the world for giant panda breeding, research, and panda wild nature training, etc. The entire nature reserve resembles a gigantic bio-gene bank. It is home to as many as 4000 plants and 2000 kinds of wildlife. Throughout the tour, tourists can be a panda volunteer and learn how to take care of pandas in the research center. As you track the wild pandas in the wood, you will learn more about the pandas’ habitat and their mysterious life. The tour would be an informative and much meaningful experience.

Day 1: Transfer from Chengdu to Wolong Panda Research Center

The tour bus will pick up clients at 8:00 for free within the 2rd ring road in Chengdu. And get you transferred from Chengdu to Wolong Panda Research Center. Then in the afternoon, we are about to visit the panda compound within the nature reserve.

(Notice: The private car is used only when there are at least 6 tourists in the group. If there are fewer than 6 tourists, you have to use the public tour bus to Wolong from Chengdu)

Day 2: Panda Care Activities in Panda Research Center

In the morning, we will head to Panda Research Center to get gears and register for panda care. Then, led by professional panda keeper, you will enter the panda rooms and clean the leftovers of bamboo, and his roomand remove panda dung. In the meantime, you will learn much knowledge of panda care and panda behavior and his natural habitat.

Then, the staff will take you to visit the giant panda gardens and closely observe adorable pandas. From 11:00-12:00, you will be able to feed pandas with fresh bamboo.

After lunch, we will learn how to make steamed corn bread (窝窝头), and later feed pandas with them. Next, volunteers will watch documentaries teaching pandas how to return to the wild

Day 3: Trek in the pristine forest of Wolong Nature Reserve and Transfer back to Chengdu

In the morning (9:00), we will meet at Panda Research Center and the trekking guide will help us warm up and pack up the trekking gears and get ready for the exploration in the pristine forest. Then we will follow the panda research guide and professional guide to tour the natural habitat of giant pandas.

As you trek in the forest, the professional guide will teach us how to spot the wild panda dung and other wildlife’s and how to tell their species according to animals’ dung and the sound they make. For the lunch, we will have a picnic in the woods. And later keep tracking the wildlife. At around 17:00, we will head back to Panda Research Center and later go back to hotel and get luggage and head back to Chengdu.

Kind Reminder:
1. As you trek in the forest, follow the instruction of the guide. Stay close and never venture into unknown trails. Never leave the team randomly; otherwise you shall bear the responsibility.
2. For the out-door trekking, you need to buy the life insurance yourself.
3. To be able to trek in the forest, one needs to be healthy and physically strong. If you have health problems, never hide it. Otherwise, It might lead to accident and you have to assume the full responsibility.
4. If any unforeseeable circumstances such as bad weather, natural disaster, etc, occur, we will offer alternative plans or postpone the tour, for safety concerns. We will inform the tourists in the first place.
