This a tailor-made tour for panda lovers to explore the outstanding primitive scenery in Wolong and feed pandas with their own hands to experience the daily life as a panda keeper. You can hike in Dengsheng Gorge to explore the habitat of wild pandas while appreciating amazing views of rushing rivers, flourishing old trees, verdant moss and colorful fallen leaves. Working as a panda keeper in the panda base will also enable you to contact with cuddly pandas closely away from the crowds of tourists.

Day 1: Chengdu Arrival

After arriving in Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, your guide will welcome you at the airport. A private car will take you from the airport to the reserved hotel. The rest of the day is free to do a little exploration at your leisure.

Day 2: Wolong Tour: Wolong - Dengsheng Gorge Hiking

Earthquake Memorial Site

Wild Giant Pandas

In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up in the hotel in Chengdu and drive to Wolong 133km away (about 3 hours’ drive). On the way, we will pass 2008 Earthquake Memorial Site, the ruin of Xuankou Middle School. The buildings remain as they were after the quake. You can stop and have a short visit here.

Next, we will arrive at Gengda Town in Wolong and stop for a lunch before launching the interesting hiking in Dengsheng Gorge. 55 km (34 miles) from Gengda, Dengsheng Gorge is an authentic natural habitat of wild giant pandas, together with other wild animals, such as white-lip deer and red pandas. The primordial forest of Dengsheng brings together the outstanding alpine ecological landscapes such as alpine meadows and forested snowfields. It is a good place to completely relax yourself in the nature. The hiking trail is 5 km (3 miles) long and the hike takes about 2–3 hours. Trekking along the trail, you will find it to be really a very interesting hiking with phenomenal views of waterfalls and the rushing water as it fed down the mountain. You may even come across some rare species in your exploration.

Day 3: Wolong Tour: Panda Volunteer in Wolong Panda Research Center

Tour the natural habitat of giant pandas

In this day, you will work as a panda volunteer to take care of giant pandas for a day. In the morning, your guide will pick you up and head to Wolong Panda Reserve. There you firstly get gears and register for panda care. Then, led by professional panda keeper, you will enter the panda rooms and clean the leftovers of bamboo and remove panda dung, and wash the panda house. In the meantime, you will learn much knowledge of panda care and panda behavior, and their natural habitat.

Then, the staff will take you to visit the giant panda gardens to closely observe adorable pandas. From 11:00-12:00, you will be able to feed pandas with fresh bamboo, carrot, or panda cake.

During the noon, you can take a break and have lunch while conversing with the permanent employees. If you still have time, you can explore the base, talk with the employees, or even meet some cute pandas. From 1:00-2:00pm, you will go to the Panda Cinema to watch a short documentary to learn more about pandas.

In the afternoon, you will clean the panda living areas and feed them again. You’ll also get the chance to learn how to make steamed corn bread, and later feed pandas with them. After all the activities are over, you can plant some bamboo trees, get your certificates as well as some souvenirs to wrap your day. Late in the afternoon, say goodbye to giant pandas you take care of. We will head back from Wolong to Chengdu.

Notice:
1. Volunteer activities charge for 700 RMB per day. You need to pay down payment to book the tour.
2. Your latest health check report should be provided.
3. Do not litter in natural reserve. Enjoy the eco-tour.

Day 4: Chengdu Departure

Today is free for you to have a rest in hotel or explore Chengdu at your leisure until we will transfer you to the airport or train station for your next destination or home.
