Day 1: Dujiangyan Tour: Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Qingcheng Mountain

In the morning, your tour guide will meet you at your hotel in Chengdu and drive to Dujiangyan City to see the world famous Dujiangyan Irrigation System. It’s 74km away from Chengdu. On the way, you can have a short break on the vehicle.
Dujiangyan is a great engineering paralleled to the Great Wall in the civilization history of China. It is the only oldest grand water conservancy engineering in the world so far that piloted the water without a dam. Yu Zui, Feishayan and Baoping Estuary are three projects inseparably interconnected, addressing problems of automatic bypass flow, desilting, and water inlet control of the river in a scientific way. In over two thousands years, the ancient weirs have lead surging Minjiang River into the vast Chengdu plain, creating a rich and beautiful “heavenly state”where people control the water. Climbing on the Yulei Pavilion, you will have a bird’s eye view of the whole Dujiangyan project.
In the afternoon, we will climb Qingcheng Mountain, right in the behind of Dujiangyan. Known as “the most tranquil place”since ancient times, Mount Qingcheng was the origin of Taoism of China with thousand stairs leading to tranquility. In 2000, Qingcheng Mountain was identified as World Cultural Heritage and the first batch of national 5A scenic area. The ancestral mountain and ancestral hall in Tianshi Path has gathered the essence of Taoist culture. With mountains in four sides, the hills, brooks, valleys and temples are hidden in the lush woods. You will obtain inner peace and embrace the nature in this tranquil mountain.

Day 2: Wolong Tour: Panda Volunteer in Wolong Panda Research Center

In this day, you will work as a panda volunteer to take care of giant pandas for a day. In the morning, your guide will pick you up and head to Wolong Panda Reserve. There you firstly get gears and register for panda care. Then, led by professional panda keeper, you will enter the panda rooms and clean the leftovers of bamboo and remove panda dung, and wash the panda house. In the meantime, you will learn much knowledge of panda care and panda behavior, and their natural habitat.
Then, the staff will take you to visit the giant panda gardens to closely observe adorable pandas. From 11:00-12:00, you will be able to feed pandas with fresh bamboo, carrot, or panda cake.
During the noon, you can take a break and have lunch while conversing with the permanent employees. If you still have time, you can explore the base, talk with the employees, or even meet some cute pandas. From 1:00-2:00pm, you will go to the Panda Cinema to watch a short documentary to learn more about pandas.
In the afternoon, you will clean the panda living areas and feed them again. You’ll also get the chance to learn how to make steamed corn bread, and later feed pandas with them. After all the activities are over, you can plant some bamboo trees, get your certificates as well as some souvenirs to wrap your day.
Notice:
1. Volunteer activities charge for 700 RMB per day. You need to book it in advance and pay down payment for the tour.
2. The age limit for the volunteering program is 12 years and above.
3. Your latest health check report should be provided.
4. Please do not make noises or sudden movements that might startle the pandas.
5. It is advisable that you do not wear any strong smelling perfumes, deodorants, or creams as pandas are sensitive to smell.

Day 3: Wolong Tour: Wolong Nature Reserve Trekking

In the morning 9:00am, we will meet at Panda Research Center and the trekking guide will help us warm up and pack up the trekking gears and get ready for the exploration in the pristine forest. Then we will follow the panda research guide and professional guide to tour the natural habitat of giant pandas.
As you trek in the forest, the professional guide will teach us how to spot the wild panda dung and other wildlife’s and how to tell their species according to animals’ dung and the sound they make. For the lunch, we will have a picnic in the woods. And later keep tracking the wildlife. At around 17:00, we will head back to Panda Research Center and later go back to hotel and get luggage and head back to Chengdu.

Notice:
1. As you trek in the forest, follow the instruction of the guide. Stay close and never venture into unknown trails. Never leave the team randomly.
2. For the out-door trekking, you need to buy the life insurance yourself.
3. To be able to trek in the forest, one needs to be healthy and physically strong. If you have health problems, never hide it. Otherwise, It might lead to accident and you have to assume the full responsibility.
4. If any unforeseeable circumstances such as bad weather, natural disaster, etc, occur, we will offer alternative plans or postpone the tour, for safety concerns. We will inform the tourists in the first place.
Day 4: Chengdu Tour: Jinsha Site Museum, Wenshu Temple, Renmin Park, Jinli Ancient Street

Today, your Chengdu trip will begin from Jinsha Site Museum. After picked up by your local guide at the hotel, you will have a meaningful visit to Jinsha Site Museum. Constructed on the Jinsha ruin site which reveals the unique civilization of the mysterious ancient Shu Kingdom (approximately 2900-3200 years ago), Jinsha Site Museum is a large park complex covering 74 acres of land and contains 3,000 years-old artifacts. Wandering in the museum, you can see many of the thousands of gold, bronze, jade, and stone objects reflecting the productivity level and how people lived in Sichuan 3,000 years ago.
Next, we will drive to Wenshu Temple built in Sui Dynasty. It’s the most frequented temple in Chengdu. The temple was constructed in the style of traditional western Sichuan buildings and conserves many precious cultural relics and ten thousands of Buddhist scriptures and literature. Every day, there are many people coming for worship of Buddhas and praying. It’s said that one of the Buddha statues in the temple is in charge of helping people realize their dreams. Pray to this Buddha sincerely, your dream will come true within three weeks.
After lunch, we will head to Renmin Park, a park with a long history frequented by local people to spend some leisure time. Here, you can see many people taking exercises, playing majiang, drinking teas and chatting with friends or boating on the lake. Parallel of teahouses crowded with guests drinking teas and enjoying the good weather constitutes an unique scenery of the park.
In the late afternoon, drive to Jinli Ancient Street. Known as “the First Street in Shu Kingdom”, Jinli is one of the busiest streets in the history of Xishu, and now it is a commercial pedestrian street built with the architectural style of the traditional old town in western Sichuan Province in Qing Dynasty. Along the street are numerous stores selling special local products like Shu Embroidery, lacquer products, folk handicrafts, curios, or calligraphies and paintings of celebrities. Here you will experience colorful traditional folk cultures. When night approaches and lamps are lighten up, the street will be decorated with beautiful light, making it more fascinating. It’s a good time for you to take some great pictures.

Day 5: Chengdu Tour: Du Fu Thatched Cottage

In the morning, we will have a sightseeing in Du Fu Thatched Cottage. Du Fu Thatched Cottage is the former residence of Du Fu, the great Chinese poet in Tang Dynasty (712AD - 770 AD). The poet sage had lived here for almost 4 years during which over 240 poems were wrote. The cottage had been renovated and expanded throughout the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. With its simple and elegant buildings, it is the biggest, best preserved, best known, and most distinctive relic pertaining of Du Fu in China. You will learn about the life and poetry of Du Fu and enjoy the large contemplative park with streams and flowers here.
Now our tour ends. You’ll be escorted by your tour guide to the airport for your flight to next destination or home.
