Trip Overview
Our 6-day Mount Siguniang Erfeng Climbing Tour from Chengdu takes you to the summit of Erfeng (5,276m), the second peak of Mount Siguniang in Sichuan. As one of the more accessible 5,000-meter peaks in the region, Erfeng offers a rewarding high-altitude climbing experience, combining scenic valley hiking, mountain landscapes, and the challenge of reaching a snow-capped summit.
Your adventure begins in Chengdu, where we welcome you before heading into the mountains of western Sichuan. Along the way, you'll visit the historic Dujiangyan Irrigation System and the 2008 Earthquake Memorial Site, with beautiful mountain scenery around Mount Balang before reaching Siguniangshan Town, formerly known as Rilong Town.
Before the climb, we'll take you on a full-day hike through Changping Valley, where forests, alpine meadows, and towering peaks provide a scenic introduction to Mount Siguniang while helping you acclimatize to the altitude. The next day, you'll trek up to Erfeng Base Camp (4,200m) and spend the night camping in the mountains, preparing for the summit attempt ahead.
The highlight of your journey comes early the following morning, when you set out with your mountain guide to climb Mount Siguniang Erfeng (5,276m). The ancient Dujiangyan Irrigation System.
The 2008 Earthquake Memorial Site in Yingxiu.
After breakfast at your hotel, we'll leave Chengdu at around 7:30 am and begin our journey towards Mount Siguniang. Our first stop is the famous Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built more than 2,200 years ago. Unlike traditional dams, this remarkable ancient engineering project uses the natural flow of the Min River to control flooding and irrigate farmland. As you explore the site, you'll discover how this ingenious system has helped make the Chengdu Plain one of China's most fertile agricultural regions for centuries.
Next, we'll continue to Yingxiu Town, one of the areas most severely affected by the devastating 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Here, you'll visit the Earthquake Memorial Site, where preserved ruins and memorials tell the story of the disaster and the remarkable efforts to rebuild the local communities. It is a moving place to learn about this important event in Sichuan's recent history and remember those who lost their lives.
After lunch in Wolong, a mountainous region famous for its giant panda habitat, we'll continue towards Mount Siguniang. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as we travel through deep valleys and rugged mountains around Mount Balang (4,532m). Along the way, you'll enjoy beautiful alpine landscapes, and if the weather is clear, you may catch your first panoramic views of the magnificent peaks of Mount Siguniang (Four Girls Mountain).
We'll arrive in Siguniangshan Town (formerly Rilong Town) at around 5:30 pm. Located at approximately 3,100 meters above sea level, this small mountain town is the gateway to Mount Siguniang. After checking into your hotel, take some time to relax and adjust to the higher altitude before tomorrow's acclimatization hike in Changping Valley.

Beautiful alpine scenery in Changping Valley.
After breakfast, we'll take a short drive to Changping Valley, one of the three main valleys of Mount Siguniang. Today's hike is an important part of your preparation for the upcoming Mount Siguniang Erfeng climb, giving you time to experience the beautiful mountain scenery while gradually adjusting to the higher altitude.
We'll begin our journey from Lama Temple (Lamasery), following the trail deeper into the valley. Changping Valley stretches for approximately 29 km and is known for its peaceful forests, clear mountain streams, alpine meadows, and impressive views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. As you walk through the valley, you'll pass towering trees, wooden trails, and beautiful mountain landscapes, with plenty of opportunities to stop for photos and enjoy the fresh mountain air.
Our hiking destination is Muluozi (3,760m), a scenic alpine meadow surrounded by mountains. The hike from Lama Temple to Muluozi takes approximately 5 hours, followed by another 3 hours for the return journey. If you prefer to save some energy for the upcoming climb, horseback riding is also available along permitted sections of the valley at your own expense, subject to local arrangements.
After exploring Changping Valley, we'll return to Siguniangshan Town (formerly Rilong Town) for the night. Enjoy a relaxing evening and get plenty of rest, as tomorrow we'll begin our trek to Erfeng Base Camp for the summit attempt.

Horses help carry climbing equipment.
After breakfast, we'll begin our trek to Mount Siguniang Erfeng Base Camp (4,200m), where we'll spend the night before tomorrow's summit attempt. Today's hike takes approximately 7 hours, following a mountain trail through the beautiful alpine landscapes of Mount Siguniang. Along the way, we'll pass several local landmarks, including Zhaijieping, Guozhuangping, Shibanre, Dajianbao, Jipengzi, and Dacao, as the scenery gradually changes from mountain valleys and grasslands to more rugged high-altitude terrain.
As we make our way higher into the mountains, you'll enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding peaks and open alpine landscapes. The trail involves a steady gain in elevation, making this a physically demanding day, especially as the air becomes thinner. To make the trek more comfortable, local pack horses will help carry the climbing equipment and supplies. If you prefer to ride a horse for part of the journey, please let our guide know in advance so that arrangements can be discussed, subject to availability and additional charges.
Upon reaching Erfeng Base Camp at approximately 4,200m, you'll have time to rest and take in the mountain surroundings. Our local mountain guide will introduce tomorrow's climbing route, explain the important safety precautions, and share practical climbing tips to help you prepare for the summit attempt. Before setting off, our mountain guide will check the weather conditions and make sure everyone is feeling well enough for the summit attempt. With your headlamp lighting the way, you'll begin the climb in the early morning darkness, following your guide along the mountain trail towards the summit.
As you climb higher, the terrain becomes steeper and rockier, and the thinner air makes every step more demanding. Take your time, keep a steady pace, and enjoy the incredible mountain scenery as daylight gradually reveals the surrounding peaks. After approximately 3 hours of climbing, weather and physical conditions permitting, you'll reach the summit of Mount Siguniang Erfeng (5,276m). Standing at over 5,000 meters above sea level, you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Take some time to celebrate your achievement and capture a few unforgettable photos before beginning the descent.
We'll then carefully descend to Erfeng Base Camp, which usually takes around 2–2.5 hours. After a short rest, we'll continue hiking downhill for approximately 5 hours to return to Siguniangshan Town (formerly Rilong Town). With more than 10 hours of hiking and climbing in total, this is a physically demanding day. If you're concerned about your fitness or need horse support for the return journey, please discuss the arrangements with your guide in advance, as availability and trail conditions may vary.
Back in town, you can finally relax after your mountain adventure. In the evening, enjoy a celebration dinner with your fellow travelers and share the memorable moments of your Erfeng climb. After such a long day, a comfortable bed and a good night's rest will be especially welcome!
