Covering an area of 700 square kilometers, Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is another highlight in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichaun Province, which is world-known for crystal blue ponds, beautiful valley, snow-capped mountains and primitive forest. Lying about 360 kilometers away from Chengdu, Huanglong National Park together with Jiuzhai Valley has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992.

Hihghlights in Huanglong National Park
Reputed as “Fairy Land on Earth”, Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area draws hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Huanglong Attractions are including but not limited to :
Colorful Ponds and Spectacular Waterfalls : Yingbin Pond (Guests Welcome Pond), Feipuliuhui (Marvelous Flying Waterfall), Flying Waterfall on Lotus Platform, Bonsai Pond (Penjing Pond).
Snow Mountains : At the altitude of 5,588 meters, Xuebaoding is the most famous and highest mountain in Huanglong.
Gorgeous Valley : Huanglong Valley (Yellow Dragon Valley) lies near Xuebaoding and has over 3,400 crystal ponds alongside.
Primitive Forest : Diverse forest ecosystems provide a perfect environment for many endangered species, like giant pandas, Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey, takins, clouded leopards, etc.
Ancient Temples : Huanglong Middle Temple, Huanglong Ancient Temple.

Avoid High Altitude Sickness while Visiting Huanglong
The altitude of Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is over 3000 meters, making it as one of the highest tourist attractions in China. High altitude sickness may occur while visiting Huanglong National Park, especially in cold seasons when the oxygen is quite less. Please consult with your doctor before going there.
Once you arrive in Huanglong, ascending slowly and taking things easy are the best way to prevent altitude sickness. Do NOT run and jump during the tour.
And inside the park, there are many oxygen stalls where you can get an oxygen boost there. You can also buy a bottle of oxygen from the little shopping kiosks along the way as a backup.
Best Time to Visit Huanglong National Park
The best time to visit Huanglong Scenic Area is from April to November. With short summer days, it transits from spring to autumn quickly and Huanglong winter is relatively longer.
Generally speaking, the weather of Huanglong weather is wet and cold. Days are sunshine, while foggy in the morning and night. Rainfall mainly concentrates in May, June, July and August. The average temperature in Huang Scenic Area is about 7℃ all year round. July is the hottest month with average temp of 17℃ and January is the coldest month at 3℃.

Note :
Raincoat and heavy cloth are recommended for Huanglong National Park weather is changeable, especially in the mountain peaks. Sometimes it seems cloudy and rainy, and then snow may happen.
Suggested Travel Length in Huanglong National Park
Usually half day is enough for touring Huanglong Scenic Area. It is suggested to take cable car up to the top and then to hike down to the multicolor pond, visit Huanglong Ancient Temple, Huanglong Cave, and Huanglong Middle Temple accordingly. By this way, you could save much time and energy and avoid seeing the same sight twice since you take the same route up and down in the park.

Get to Huanglong National Park from Jiuzhaigou Valley
As Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong National Park are both situated in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, many tourists would like to pay a visit to Huanglong Scenic Area after trekking Jiuzhaigou National Park. You can get to Huanglong from Jiuzhaigou Valley either by coach or by chartered cars.
By Coach
Two direct buses depart from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong at 06:30 and 07:00 every morning. The 128 kilometers' journey takes about 3 hours and the ticket price is RMB38 per person.
By Chartered Cars
Since buses from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong leaves at early morning, chartering a car becomes popular among visitors. It usually takes about RMB 300 to rent a car with a driver from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong, and it takes about 2.5 hours.
Get to Huanglong National Park from Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport
Jiuzhiaogou Huanglong Airport, located 43 km away from Huanglong National Park, offers the most convenient way to Huanglong by flight from Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing and some other major cities.
Upon arrive at the Jiuhuang Airport, you can get to the Huanglong National Park from the airpot by Shuttle bus or taxi.
By Shuttle Bus
There is no fixed schedule for airport shuttle bus. Once full, it runs towards Huanglong National Park.
There are shuttle buses running towards Huanglong National Park. It takes about 1 hour to finish the 43 kilometers’ journey. The one-way ticket price is 22 RMB per person, while the round-trip ticket price is 40 RMB per person.
Please notice that there is only One shuttle bus returning from Huanglong to the airport which departs at 15:00 every day.
By Taxi or Chartered Cars
Some visitors would charter a car to tour Huanglong National Park first and then get to Jiuzhaigou Valley.
Get to Huanglong Scenic Area from Chengdu
Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, is home to many cultural and historic sites. Travelers would choose Chengdu as their first stop and then tour around. Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong National Park are always on the top of their itinerary.
By Air
There are most frequent flights from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport every day. Upon arrival at Jiuhuang Airport, you can transfer to Huanglong National Park by airport shuttle bus, taxi or chartered cars. The flight distance is about 350 kilometers, which takes about 1 hour.
However, in off-peak seasons, there are fewer flights from Chengdu to Jiuhuang Airport. But the ticket price would be much cheaper than that in peak seasons.
By Road
At present, there is no direct long-distance bus to Huanglong from Chengdu. You need to take a bus at Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Station or Chengdu Tourist Distributing Center (Xinnanmeng) to Jiuzhaigou, Songpan or Chuanzhusi first and then transfer to Huanglong National Park by coach or chartered cars. To rent a car from Chengdu, you need to drive for about 10 hours. You will drive northern from Chengdu city and pass through Dujiangyan, Wenchuan and Songpan.
