Mount Emei Scenic Area, located in Emeishan City in the southwest of Sichuan Basin, is a national scenic area and listed in the World Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites together with Leshan Giant Buddha.

Actually, Mount Emei consists of four mountains: Da’e, Er’e, San’e and Si’e. But Mount Emei, which people usually travel to, refers to the Da’e Mountain. Emeishan Scenic Area covers about 115 Square Kilometers. The highest peak is Wanfoding which is 3099 meters high.

Emeishan is abundant in natural scenery and resource, which is called as the “Kingdom of Plants”, “Paradise of Animals” and “Museum of Geological Reserves”. However, Emeishan is not only famous for its steep terrain and beautiful natural scenery, but also famous for its profound Buddhist culture. As one of the four most sacred Buddhist Mountains in China, there are more than 30 Buddhist temples in the Mount Emei, such as Baoguo Temple, Fuhu Temple and Xixiang Temple.

The entrance ticket fee of Mount Emei Scenic Area is RMB 185 per person in peak season (Juanuary 16 to December 14) and RMB 110 per person in off season (December 15 to the Next Juanquan). If you want to visit Baoguo Temple and Fuhu Temple at the foot of Mount Emei, and Wannian Temple, you need to buy another ticket, which is RMB 8 for Baoguo Temple, RMB 6 for Fuhu Temple and RMB 10 for Wannian Temple.

The Golden Summit

The Golden Summit (Jinding), at the altitude of 3077 meters, is a must-see scenic spot in Emei Mountain. You can go to Jinding by cable car or on foot. Once you arrive in the Golden Summit, you can overlook the whole Chengdu Plain from Jinding if it is a sunny day. And you can also see spectacular sunrise and Clouds Sea at Jinding. And the famous Huazang Temple, which was constructed during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Wannian Temple

Wannian Temple is one of the temples which have the longest history in Mount Emei. This temple consists of the Gate, Mile Hall, Brick Hall, Gaosong Hall and Daxiong Hall. Brick Hall is the second biggest hall in Wannian Temple, which is only built by laying bricks, without any wood, pillar or tile. Baishuiqiufeng is one of the most beautiful sceneries in Emeishan. In deep autumn, the red leaves are flying outside the temple and the water in Baishui Pool are rippling, which gives you a pleasant feeling.

Best Time to Travel Mount Emei

The best time to visit Emeishan is in Spring and Autumn. In Spring, the mountian is carpeted with azalea blossoms. As you  enjoy the beautiful flowers, you can also join the Buddhist Temple Worship Festival which are held from March to April. In addition, you can taste the the fresh green tea in spring. In Autumn, the red leaves  represent the autumn scenic view. The autum in Emeishan Mountain is short, only from the middle of September to the end of October. The tree leaves turn yellow first and then turn red. You can stand on the top of the mountain to overlook the valley, the view is spectacular.

Tips for Dressing

The temperature in Emeishan varies according to the altitude and the temperature difference is large. For example, the temperature of the foot of the mountain may be 14℃ higher than that of the top of the mountain. If the altitude is above 2000 meters, there is only two seasons (spring and winter) in Emei Mountain.  In summer, the average temperature of Jinding is only 8-10℃. Therefore, you have to take thin coats with you when you travel Emeishan. If you plan to see sunrise, you need to prepare more thick clothes. In winter, the lowest temperature is -20℃. If you go there in winter, you have to prepare warm clothes to keep warm, such as down jackets.

What to Eat in Emeishan

Since the food of Emeishan is largely influenced by Sichuan food, its categories and flavors are similar to Chengdu food.

In Emeishan city down town, there are many small restaurants providing delicious and authentic local food. It is convenient and easy for you to find a great restaurant to try Emei food.

In Emeishan Scenic Area, there are mainly three choices available for you to have a meal. Firstly, you can choose to have a meal in a restaurant. These restaurants are mainly located in Baoguosi Temple, Qingyin Temple, Xixiang Temple, Leidongping, etc. Secondly, you can have a meal in a temple. Most of the temples in Emeishan offer vegetarian meals at 6:30am, 11:30am and 17:30pm. The third choice is to prepare some food by yourself, such as Biscuits, chocolate, engery bars, etc. And you can replenish energy as soon as possible during your traveling.

How to Get to Emeishan

It is very convenient to get to Emeishan from Chengdu or Leshan. You can get to Emeishan from Chengdu by high-speed train, by bus or by chartered car. The fastest way to get to Emeishan is by high-speed train, which only takes about one and a half hours. You can also choose to take a bus to Emeishan at Xinnanmen Bus Station. If you depart from Leshan, you can take a bus at Leshan Bus Station or Leshan Xiaoba Bus Station. It only takes about half an hour to get to Emeishan from Leshan.

How to Visit Mount Emei

In Emeishan Scenic Area, shuttle buses and cable cars are all available. You can visit Mount Emei by each means of these transportation according to yourself. Besides, you can also choose to hike Mount Emei.

By Shuttle Bus

It is the most convenient way to spend the long journey to the scenic areas at the higher mountian area by shuttle bus. The shuttle bus is Emeishan departs from the Tourist Station at the food of Mt.Emei and drive up to Wannian Temple with five stops, including Baoguosi Bus Station, Wuxianggang Bus Station, Wanniansi Bus Station, Linggongli Bus Station and Leidongping Bus Station.

By Cable Car

There are two cable car routes that avaliable in Emei Mountain. One is Wanniansi Cable Car from Wanniansi Car Park to Wanniansi Temple. The other is Jinding Cable Car from Leidongping to the Golden Submit.

Hiking

Mount Emei Hiking is also one of the popular ways to visit Mount Emei. It usually takes about 2 to 3 days if you choose to visit Emeishan by hiking. The hiking roads are in good condition and the sceneries along the hiking roads are very beautiful. Hiking Emei Mountain is a great choice for hiking lovers.
