Mount Qingcheng Travel Guide

Mount Qingcheng, as world cultural heritages, one of national 5A-grade scenic spots and birthplaces of Taoism, is located in the southwest of Dujiangyan City, 68km away from Chengdu down town and 10km away from Dujiangyan Irrigation System. The whole Mount Qingcheng Scenic Area covers 200 square kilometers. The highest peak in Mount Qingcheng is Laojun Peak which is 1260m above sea level. The woods and trees in Mount Qingcheng are verdant and evergreen; the surrounding peaks are rolling. Mount Qingcheng is famous for its quiet and peace.

Mount Qingcheng is divided into two parts which are called Front Mountain and Back Mountain. The front mountain is the main part of Mount Qingcheng Scenic Area and covers about 15 square kilometers. The back mountain covers about 100 square kilometers. The clear streams, verdant woods and magnificent peaks make the back mountain very attractive. In winter, it is very cold in Mount Qingcheng; but in summer, it is so cool that Mount Qingcheng is regarded a great summer resort by many people.

Main Attractions in Mount Qingcheng

There are many cultural relics and historic sites in the front mountain and the scenery here is also very beautiful. The main attractions in the front mountain are Natural Drawing, Jianfu Palace, Tianshi Cave, Chaoyang Cave and Shangqing Palace, etc. The main attractions in the back mountain are Golden Cliff and Sky Storehouse, Goddess Cave, Clouds Caves, View of Platform Bridge, etc. There are some of the main attractions listed below.

Natural Drawing

Built during 1875-1909, Natural Drawing is a pavilion with ten horns and double-hipped roof. It is located between Jianfu Palace and Tianshi Cave, at the altitude of 893m. The scenery here is so beautiful that it looks like a painting. It is also the reason why it is called “Natural Drawing”.

Jianfu Palace

Jianfu Palace was originally built in 730. After being repaired several times, Jianfu Palace only has two halls and three yards nowadays. The existing buildings were repaired in 1888. Jianfu palace is located below cliffs which seems spectacular. On the left, it is the sites of the princess of Mingqing. Move 1km to the west, you will arrive at Natural Drawing. Jianfu Palace enshrines the celebrities and gods of Taoism. There is a pair of couplet of 394 characters on the pillar of Jianfu Palace, which is known as one of the highlights in Jianfu Palace.

Laojun Pavilion

Located on the top of the highest peak (Laoxiao Peak), Laojun Pavilion is at the altitude of 1260m. The pavilion was rebuilt after it had been destroyed by the “5.12” earthquake. The pavilion now is 33m high, with 9 flours. Its underneath is square while its top is round. The statue of Taishang Laojun is sitting inside the pavilion. The statue is 7.3m high. Standing at Laojun Pavilion, you can enjoy a view of magnificent scenery.

Goddess Caves

Hidden in the forest with old trees, Goddess Cave is a natural sand shale cave and is located at the half way up to Gukou Mountain. The main cave of Goddess Caves is more than 300 meters long. The total length of affiliated caves is more than 1000. These caves are winding and extending to the upside. Inside the cave, it is warm in winter and cool in summer. And there are many strange and unique rocks and stones growing in the cave.

Best Time to Travel Mount Qingcheng

The climate of Mount Qingcheng belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate. Its annually average temperature is around 15℃. You can tour Mount Qingcheng all year round, but the best time to travel Mount Qingcheng is in summer, from July to August. In summer, Mount Qingcheng is a great summer resort. You will feel very cool when you travel Mount Qingcheng in summer.

Getting to Mount Qingcheng from Chengdu

Mount Qingcheng is about 60km away from Chengdu. It is very convenient to get to Mount Qingcheng from Chengdu. You can take a chartered car, take a bus or take a train to Mount Qingcheng from Chengdu.

By Chartered Car

You can rent a car to take you to Mount Qingcheng from Chengdu directly. The car driver will pick you up at your hotel and drive you to Mount Qingcheng through Cheng-Guan Highway. It only takes about 1.5 hours to get to the entrance of Mount Qingcheng Scenic Area.

By Bus

You can take a tourist bus from Chengdu to Mount Qingcheng at Xinnanmen Bus station or Chadianzi Bus Station. The terminal station of these routes is the front mountain of Mount Qingcheng. The ticket fee is 24-26RMB. It takes about 1.5 hours to get to the terminal.

By Train

There are intercity high-speed trains from Chengdu to Dujiangyan. You can take a train of this route at Chengdu north railway station and get off the train at Mount Qingcheng station. It takes about a half hour. Then you can transfer to the bus No.101 to get to the Mount Qingcheng Scenic Area. It only takes about 10 minutes from Mount Qingcheng station to Mount Qingcheng Scenic Area.

Mount Qingcheng Accommodation

It is very convenient to find good accommodation around Mount Qingcheng. You can choose to stay over in Dujiangyan down town or in Mount Qingcheng Scenic Area. The hotels in the front mountain of Mount Qingcheng is more expensive and luxurious than the hotels in the back mountain of Mount Qingcheng. The prices of those hotels in Dujiangyan down town will be comparatively fair. But it will be more quiet and peaceful to stay over in Mount Qingcheng Scenic Area.

Entrance Ticket

The entrance ticket fee for the Front Mountain is 90RMB per person. And for the Back Mountain, it is 20RMB per person.
