Danba Climate & Weather

Danba is located in the alpine region of Qionglai Mountains. The climate belongs to Qinghai-Tibet plateau monsoon climate. The annual average temperature is 14.2℃. It is commonly considered that Danba is the perfect place to see blossoms in spring and golden leaves in autumn. General speaking, March, April, May, September and October are the best time to visit Danba.

Danba Location

Danba County is situated in the eastern section of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, about 340km to Chengdu and 140km to Kangding. It is bordered by Xiaojin on the east, Jinchuan on the north, Kangding on the south and Daofu on the west. In the administrative region, the mountains are overlapping and the valleys are deep. The southwestern terrain is higher than the southeastern part. Its altitude is different in each township, ranging from 1700m to 5820m. So, there is an unique climatic feature, calling "A mountain has four seasons in different mountain segments, and the weather is also different in 5km radius regions."

Danba Climate

Danba belongs to Qinghai-Tibet plateau monsoon climate with a vertical distribution law. The temperature difference could reach 24℃ in the same day between the mountaintop and the valley. The average temperature one year is 14.2℃. January is the coldest with an average temperature 4℃ and August is the hottest with an average temperature 22.4℃. Therefore, the major climate feature of Danba is mild, with no bitter cold in winter and no hot summer.

Yearly, the regions enjoy enough sunshine at 2106.9 - 2318.5 hours and rainfalls at 500 - 1000mm. From the early December to the next March, the mountain road start to freeze. It is best not to go the Jiaju Tibetan Village during that time.

Best Time to Visit Danba

In the spring and autumn, the natural landscapes of Danba are the most beautiful, so this duration is the best time to visit Danba. Jiaju and Dangling are most beautiful.

In the period of gentle spring rain of March and April, the snow-white pear flowers bloom all over the mountains and plains. The snow-white blossoms are glittering and translucent, as the snow flakes left from the the middle of winter. Danba's pear flowers are not only in full bloom, but also not lonely because of companion by peach blossom, apple blossom and pomegranate blossom. In this beautiful spring, red and white blossoms set each other off and cover up the ancient Diaolou inside, which looks like a picture.

When October comes, the early snow falls on the mountain ridge. Under the snow line, it still remains scene of autumn. Red maple leaves, green pine and the golden birch forest are merged with the blue sky, white clouds and snow-capped peaks, which look like stunning and classic paintings drawn by artists, making you unable to believe what authentic beautiful sceneries you see here. In addition, late September is the harvest time. Visiting during that time, you will see the Diaolou decorated with golden corns, which is the local unique scene you can not see any places in the world.

The Pear Flower of Jiaju Tibetan Village in Spring

Jiaju Tibetan Village is located about 8.5km north from Danba county town. It is voted as "one of the most beautiful ancient village in China" by the Chinese National Geographic in 2005. The village is famous for their houses and pear flowers in spring. In every late March and early April, visitors from home and abroad come here for the most beautiful scenery. The snow-white pear flowers are in full bloom, dotted by the Tibetan-style houses. It looks like a painting of spring landscapes.

The pear flowers are unique because the pear trees of Jiaju Tibetan Village are different from that of other places in Danba. Firstly, the pear trees are much more than other places. The locals planted pear trees in the fields or space vegetable plots before and behind the houses. Secondly, the pear trees are older than others. Beside the first house in the village, you can see the oldest pear tree which the locals said has been over 200 years old. Thirdly, the flowers of pear trees are special white, for the altitude is higher.

Walking tens of meters from the entrance, you will reach the NO.1 viewing deck. From the perfect point of view, you can get the panorama of the whole Jiaju Village: the ancient pear trees bloom all over, the traditional Tibetan houses with red ridges and white walls and five-colored prayer flayer on the top, and the Daduhe River in the mountain valley. Move further, and you will reach the NO.2 viewing deck where you can get the bird's view of the whole village see clearly the Tibetan-style houses.
