Chengdu Transportation
As the hub of transportation in Southwest China, Chengdu offers its tourists a very convenient traffic transfer. With Shuangliu International Airport and the railway extending in all directions, it is easier to get to Chengdu by air and by train. And the local transportation is also convenient with hundreds city buses, taxis and the subway.
Getting There & Away
By Air
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is busiest airport in middle and western China, located in the southwest of the city, about 20 km away from the city center. It is the largest and busiest civil airport in central and western China, operating flight service to about 113 domestic cities and over 30 international cities, including Los Angles, Vancouver, London, Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo and so on.
There are totally 5 bus line connection the Shuangliu Airport with the downtown and suburb Chengdu. These 5 lines will take tourists to the center of Chengdu, the city bus station in North Train Station, the West Square of East Train Station, the New Exhibition Center of Century in Shuangliu and Xipu City Bus Station in Pixian County.
Tourists can take taxi at the No.2 gate in the Terminal No.1 and No.4 & 5 gate in the Terminal No.2. The taxi fee is about CNY 60 from the airport to the center of Chendgu, Tianfu Square, about CNY 45 to Xinnanmen Bus Station, about CNY 60 to the North Train Station.
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport
By Train
Chengdu is the largest and most important railway transport hub in southwest China with very convenient railway transportation. At present, there are three railway stations for passenger transport: Chengdu North Railway Station, Chengdu East Railway Station and Chengdu South Railway Station.
Chengdu North Railway Station operates regular trains to many large cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Kunming and Guilin as well as bullet trains to Shanghai, Wuhan, Chongqing, Dujiangyan and a few other cities.
Chengdu East Railway Station is the main hub of inter-city D-trains and high-speed trains in Chengdu, including inter-city trains to/from Chongqing, Dazhou, and Nanchong, etc and high-speed trains to/from Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Nanchang, and Zhengzhou, etc.
As for the Chengdu North Railway Station, it came into service on December 20. 2014 mainly offer service for the Chen-Mian-Le Intercity Passenger Special Railway Line.
Getting Around
1. By City-Bus
The public bus service extend in all directions, which can take you to most of the places, especially sights inside the city. Common buses charge CNY 1, while those with air-conditioner charge CNY 2. Most city buses in the downtown Chengdu are air-conditioned. You need to prepare some small change as there are no conductors on many of the buses.
2. By Taxi
Chengdu has hundreds of taxis in the street, which is very convenient to get around Chengdu by taxi. The taxi fare is CNY 8 for the first 2 kilometers and CNY 1.9 for every additional km from 6:00 to 23:00. From 23:00 to 6:00 next morning, the taxi fee is CNY 9 for the first 2 kilometers and CNY 2.2 for every additional km.
3. By Pedicab
The starting price is CNY 5 in the center of Chengdu and CNY 2 in suburb area. But it is hardly to see the pedicab in the center city.
4. By Subway
It is planed to build 10 subway lines around Chengdu. So far, only subway line 1 and the first phase of line 2 are in speration. Subway line 1 is from Shenxian Lake to Century City via North Railway Station, Tianfu Square, Sichuan Gymnasium, South Railway Station, Ocean Park and other places in the city. While the first phase of line 2 is from Xipu Bullet Train Station to Chengdu Institute of Public Administration via Chadianzi Bus Station, People’ s Park, Chunxi Road, East Railway Station and other places. This two lines are linked at the Tianfu Square, which means tourists can change their routes at Tianfu Square.
